Why do wrinkles occur?
Wrinkles are a natural consequence of the ageing process. As time goes by, the underlying structure of your skin changes. The skin’s ability to produce collagen and maintain elasticity decreases gradually from the late twenties onward. As our bodies age, our skin’s appearance and characteristics also transform.
As we age, two types of wrinkles typically emerge:
1. Dynamic lines, which only appear when specific muscles are in motion, such as frown lines.
2. Static lines, which are wrinkles that have become deeply ingrained due to volume loss within the skin.
Various factors such as age, hormones, sun exposure, and smoking contribute to the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Your skin might become slightly rougher and less supple. The production of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance generated by your skin, diminishes with age, leading to reduced water retention. Additionally, the oil-producing (sebaceous) glands become less active, resulting in drier skin. Facial fat diminishes, causing a loss of plumpness and smoothness. As the ageing process advances, gravitational effects become more pronounced, leading to the emergence of folds and noticeable lines.
